Cellulose and Beyond – Seminar in Girona – November 28, 2025 | Universitat de Girona

Last Friday, the Intercoll research group participated in a highly engaging seminar hosted by the LEPAMAP-PRODIS Research Group at the University of Girona.

The event featured four excellent speakers whose talks ranged from fundamental science to practical applications in the biobased economy:

🔹 Prof. Wim Thielemans (KU Leuven) – Self-assembly of cellulose nanocrystals
🔹 Prof. Thomas Rosenau (BOKU University) – β-irradiation and ionic liquid chemistry
🔹 Prof. Carlo Punta (Politecnico di Milano) – Safe and sustainable nanocellulose-based solutions for water treatment
🔹 Prof. Stefan Spirk (TU Graz / Ecolyte GmbH) – Vanillin from lignocellulose for flow-battery energy storage

The talks clearly demonstrated how lignocellulose is poised to play a major role in biorefineries, advanced materials, energy storage, and beyond.
