INTERCOLL at Chirality 2026: Inspiring Days in Santiago de Compostela

Jul 27, 2026

The INTERCOLL group participated in the 36th International Symposium on Chirality (Chirality 2026)

The INTERCOLL group recently participated in the 36th International Symposium on Chirality (Chirality 2026) in Santiago de Compostela from July 14th to 17th, 2026—a truly inspiring experience for our team!

Every session opened the door to a new concept, a different perspective, or an unexpected application of chirality. It was a fantastic reminder of how vast this field is and how much there is still to explore. The lively discussions with researchers from diverse backgrounds gave our group many fresh ideas and exciting directions for future work.

Oral Presentation

  • Prof. Justin Zoppe: "Chiral Assemblies of Cellulose Nanocrystals: Effects of Morphology, Surface Modification and Confinement"

Poster Presentations

  • Iman Ramazani Sarbandi (PB08): "Chiral Nematic Ordering and Drying-Induced Buckling in Confined Cellulose Nanocrystal Microdroplets"

  • Shorooq Alzoubi (PA20): "Chiral Properties of Cellulose Nanocrystals from Bacterial and Sisal Sources: A Comparative Study of Cellulose I & II"

  • Sara Papini (PB16): "Chirality of Post-Sulphated Cellulose III Nanocrystal Allomorphs"

Acknowledgments

We extend our warm thanks to the organizers at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and Universidade de Vigo for hosting such a seamless, well-organized conference.

We also gratefully acknowledge financial support from the European Research Council (ERC) through the CELICOIDS project. Their support makes our research possible, and we are thrilled to bring these findings to the global scientific community.

We look forward to connecting with many of you again at future events!
