Welcome Visiting Professor Dongmao Zhang to the INTERCOLL Group!
Mar 04, 2026
Professor Zhang is visiting the group as part of his sabbatical from the Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University to collaborate on the characterization of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and nanohybrid materials using advanced circular polarization spectroscopy.
Dr. Dongmao Zhang is a Professor of Chemistry at Mississippi State University in the United States. His research focuses on optical spectrometry using nonpolarized, linearly polarized, and circularly polarized excitation and detection, with an emphasis on measurement science, instrument development, and rigorous interpretation of photon-matter interactions. He develops first-principles models and experimental strategies that account for coupled absorption, scattering, and emission processes, with applications to photoactive nanomaterials, chiroptical plasmonic nanoparticles, and bioanalytical assays. Dr. Zhang has published widely in analytical, physical, and materials chemistry journals, as well as in education focused journals such as the Journal of Chemical Education. His work is supported by the US National Science Foundation, and he is actively involved in advancing optical spectroscopy education through faculty workshops and curriculum development. He earned his PhD in Chemistry from Purdue University.
We are honored to host Professor Zhang and look forward to the start of long-term research collaborations.
